Caroline and Jocelyn's Blog!!!

Caroline Jocelyn here. This week we had a class party, we watched a movie with our stuffed animals. It’s Explore More Day on Friday!!!!! We are done with the reading switch. There about three more weeks of school left. We are practicing for our reader’s theater. We finished Southwest and West research and we are in our last math switch. We are reading Wonder for Read Aloud. It is very nice and warm out. Sad news: we are so sorry to hear that Mrs. Prescott passed away. Here is even sadder news, Oklahoma has had a terrible tornado. Thank for listening

Update about Class Party and Spelling Focus Words

Hi everyone,
Just an update about current events.  Our nanny is out sick with Strep Throat.  I have to stay home tomorrow, Thursday, with my children.  It just so happens that our class party is planned for tomorrow and we had to reschedule for Tuesday, May 21st.  I spoke with the kids today and they wrote down the change of plans in their assignment notebook, but I wanted to write it here as well for you.  I want to be with the children during their class party!  I have my gear all ready to go!

Also, Monday, we will take a pre-test for the Spelling Focus Words.  If you get 100% on the pre test, you do not have to take the test on THURSDAY and you don't have to do the homework either as you have seen this test and learned the words throughout the school year.  Yes, Thursday will be the test because of Explore More Day on Friday.

I will send home a pink form with the Focus Words on Monday so you have a fresh copy of the list.

That's it for now.  Great Field Trip today and a class picture to be uploaded soon.
Take care,
Mrs. Schroeder

"Gone Fishin' " Pictures

The children "fished" for intolerant, kind of tolerant, and tolerant macroinvertebrates to see what kind of water quality they had.  They will actually do this at the Lincoln Marsh Wednesday!  It will be interesting to see how clean their water is, and what species of macroinvertebrates they will pull out of the water!

What's Up Ahead...and THANK YOU!

Many, many thanks for my beautiful cards/letters, flowers, gifts and dinner!  You have truly made my week so wonderful and I'm touched by your generosity and kindness. This has been a wonderful school year and I have enjoyed teaching this group of children so much.  I will be sad to see them move on to 5th grade.  Thank you again!!!
Mrs. Schroeder

With that said, I can't believe we are heading into the last few weeks of school already!  This year has gone by so fast and I'm sure we are all ready for summer break to officially begin.  Before it does though, here is what's up ahead.

Math:  Long Division test Wednesday 5/15 (after field trip)
-patterns and probability to end the year

Social Studies: Finish writing speeches for the West/Southwest regions of the united states, a power point presentation, create your "tour guide person" record your speeches, and present

Writing:  Finish Bird Narratives.  Publish your Bird expository, narrative and make corrective changes to your persuasive essays.  Next up, poetry!

Reading:  Tuesday will be your last day of the reading switch for the year!  For my switch, we will take a short answer test covering the second half of the book (ch. 11-20) and a vocabulary multiple choice test as well.  We will start our Reader's Theater plays the following week and present to the lower grades the last week of school.

Science:  Lincoln Marsh Field Trip on Wednesday 5/15!  Please refer to the green memo sent home in today's Friday mail.  It explains what to wear, what to pack, and what type of lunch to bring for the "waste-free lunch"
-The last week of school we will have a "health talk" with the 4th grade students. The fourth grade boys and girls will have two different, separate discussions.  There will be a letter sent home informing parents about the information discussed etc.. closer to the date.

Upcoming Events:
5/15 field trip
5/16 Class movie/lunch party
5/23 Wheaton Public Library in to discuss summer reading programs

Noah, Mason and Sophia's blog

The Blog
Hi! This is Noah, Mason, and Sophia. Everyone will have a math test today (May 3.) We have a new Read Aloud book. It’s called Wonder and we just finished Harry Potter book 2. About 2 weeks we started a new reading switch. We are starting long division (May 6.) For science we each have a certain Illinois bird, we had  to write an expository paper and we are working on our narrative paper. In P.E. we’re playing wicker ball. In Art we’re making eyes with color wheels. For Music chorus members are preparing for the spring concert. There’s a field trip coming up at the Lincoln Marsh. Permission slips are due May 8 and we’re going on the 15. Well that’s it for now.
