Hannah and Ismail's Blog!!!!!!!

Spelling: Today we did our spelling test. We had a Focus Words test because it was a short week. Two of the words are you’re and tomorrow. We have already taken a focus words test before so we should have been able to get them right. Don’t you agree?
Gym: Today we played Crab Walk Tag. There were many cones that were safety and there were three boppers. It was fun.
Reading: We did our reading test today. Joe Dimaggio or Lou Gehirg were the book choices. The test quite was easy for Ismail and I am in PACE so I didn’t take the reading test.
Social Studies: We did our review on latitude as a table group. It wasn’t hard for Ismail, Avery, Henry, and I because we were all working together. There were only nine questions and the ninth one was worth 2 points. Next week we are painting elevation levels on our island and much more!
Science: we are classifying plants and animals. We just started learning about the 6 living kingdoms.
Library: we are trying to read as many Bluestems and Caudils as we can before February 21.
Math: today we are taking a math test over Chapter two. So we are starting chapter 3 next week.
Recess: we just got new soccer goals. Everyone likes them.
Computer: we just got to go to the computer lab for the first time this year to do Fastt Math. Starting next week we will be there in the lab three times a week.
Sam is Star of the Week this Week!  Go Sam:)  I'm (Hannah) up next week!

Updates for the Week of 9/12/2011!!!!!

Hi everyone!
Here are some updates from me before the kiddos start posting their news:

-EMAIL CHANGE AGAIN! I'm so sorry to have to change this on you, but everyone's e-mail has changed.  My e-mail address is now:  catherine.schroeder@cusd200.org.  Any e-mails sent to the ceschroe@cusd200.org should be automatically fowarded to my new address.  Thank you for your patience with this...technology this year has been a struggle to say the least! We're getting there though!

-Picture Day is THIS FRIDAY, September 16th so please send in your order forms this week if you'd like to order school pictures.

-Please send in $7.00 (cash only please) for assignment notebooks and a subscription to National Geographic For Kids.  Thank you to those of you who've already sent their money in! :)

-Innisbrook wrapping paper orders are being collected this week as well.  Let's meet our goal so Mr. Callahan can come to school wearing his PJ's!

READING:
The kids are doing a fantastic job working on Daily 5 and CAFE strategies.  We've been building our stamina in read to self and read to someone.  This Friday, 9/16, there will be a test over The Gardener.  The test will cover the vocabulary words from the story as well as comprehension questions.

MATH:
We are trying something new this year!  For chapter two, your child might have Mrs. Emma or Mr. Jewell!  The switch is on a chapter by chapter basis, so you could have a different teacher for chapter 3!  We will also be starting Fasttmath pretty soon (once it's in the computer lab!) and will be practicing our basic facts three times a week in the lab until the end of the school year.  Along with Fasttmath, we are going strong with our "Mad Minutes!"  Those of you who have gotten 50/50, we will challenge you even further by giving you only one minute, not two!

SPELLING:
Words for list 2 regular list and challenge list are up on Spellingcity.com.  To access our list, just type in my name, Catherine Schroeder, and it should pull right up!

SOCIAL STUDIES:
We are working hard on our atlas skills. Get ready for our landform unit along with latitude and longitude next week. Dough islands here we come!!!

SCIENCE:
We finished science safety last week with a pretty exciting lab activity...Cornstarch Explosion!  The kids loved this and it was a great way to end our unit.  Today we studied the different parts of a microscope so we can look at real cells tomorrow and find the nucleus!

L.A./WRITING:
We are working on Big Words For Big Kids.  This helps with learning the meanings of root words, the prefix and the suffix in order to comprehend larger words.

That's it for now, more to come with pictures! Please feel free to post comments or questions to our classroom blog!
